Once upon a time there lived an old woman, and she had a daughter, a very skilled spinner. The king heard about the craftswoman and wanted to see her. He rode on horseback to the old woman and began to ask her about the artist girl. Let the old lady boast, praise her daughter. And she herself didn’t notice how she said something about her that actually didn’t happen—they say, the girl knows how to spin golden threads from straw and clay.
- Gold from straw and clay? — the king was surprised. “Such a craftswoman should be taken to the palace.”
They settled the poor girl in the royal chambers, brought her a cart of straw and a tub of clay, and left her alone to spin the gold. But no matter how hard the girl tried to spin the golden thread, nothing worked.
The prince looked at the girl and promised:
“If you spin a golden thread, I will take you as my wife.”
But the straw still did not turn into gold! The spinner cries bitter tears, but doesn’t know what to do. Suddenly, out of nowhere, a dwarf. He handed the girl gray gloves and said:
- Put on gloves, they will help you spin the gold thread. And our agreement will be this: I give you three days. If you don’t find out my name during this time, you will become my wife.
The girl was so afraid of the royal disfavor that she agreed to the dwarf’s condition and took the gloves.
And the dwarf, grimacing, immediately disappeared.
As soon as she put on her gloves and began to work, a golden thread pulled out from the yarn, and it pulled out so quickly, so smoothly that the girl barely had time to let it through her fingers.
And time passed, three days flew by, evening came. The dwarf is about to come for the spinner. Only his girlfriend still doesn’t know his name. Apparently she will have to marry the dwarf.
The sun began to sink behind the forest, and the girl’s tears began to flow in a stream. The prince saw her in such grief and decided to cheer her up:
- Don’t cry, I’ll tell you this now! I was walking through the forest today, and suddenly I saw a dwarf dancing in a clearing, awkwardly, and he himself was singing:
This name is "I'm lucky"
the bride can't guess.
As soon as the sun goes down,
Let's leave with her together.
The girl jumped up - now she knows the name of the dwarf, now she is saved.
Then the door suddenly opened and the dwarf himself appeared.
“Your name makes me lucky,” the spinner shouted, taking off her gloves. “I’m free!”
The dwarf ran out into the street, and no one else saw him, he didn’t even have time to pick up his gloves.
And the prince took the girl as his wife.
