Ilianba Wanda

They tell how one man got food: he dug sand rats out of their holes. One day he dug such a deep hole that he saw another world in it. Its inhabitants were disgusting monsters with two toes. In horror, the hunter threw down his digging stick and rushed outside. He saw Mullian's falcon and told him about his discovery. The falcon decided to look at the monsters. He widened the hole, climbed into it himself and ordered his comrade to follow him. Once in the underworld, the hero went to the monsters and asked what kind they were - he had never seen such things before.

They answered that they are called Ilianba Wanda and are in charge of evil spirits, they do not give them a moment of peace, they force them to move, and to use only their left hand (this is the nature of evil spirits in different traditions - after all, they are associated with everything bad, the left, and not the right; it is not for nothing that the devil in Christian beliefs stands on the left behind a person’s back).

The arrival of the falcon and his companion surprised the inhabitants of the underworld so much that they stopped moving, and Ilianba Wanda began to grab them and throw them into the fire that burned on both sides of the cave. Visitors to the other world were frightened by what they saw, but the owners told them that only evil spirits were subject to punishment, and those who did not commit evil were sent to heaven - Bullima. Then they offered the guests - living ones who had reached the other world for the first time - to spend the night, because it was night above - the time of spirits. Ilianba Wanda also offered them food, but the man cautiously refused food and did not sleep, watching as the owners continued to pursue the spirits. Some of them were sent to earth by Ilianba Wanda to bring new spirits that had parted with the dead bodies.

In the morning, the guests were again offered food, and again the man refused, and the falcon accepted the treat. Then the guests climbed to the surface, and the falcon lit a fire so that, by fumigating himself and his comrade with smoke, he would get rid of the evil of the underworld. The hunter thought that the falcon would die from the afterlife food he ate, but he only became stronger after visiting the afterlife.
