Twenty monks and one nun named Eshun were meditating with a Zen teacher. Esyun was very beautiful, despite the fact that her head was shorn and her clothes were very modest. Several monks secretly fell in love with her.

One of them wrote her a love letter, insistently demanding to meet in private. Esyun answered. The next day, the teacher taught the group, and when they were finished, Esyun stood up. Addressing the person who wrote to her, she said:

“If you really love me, come and hug me.”
