There lived in the same village a husband named U Pyu and a wife named Do Ei Shin. They often quarreled, but immediately made up.
One day, during another squabble, Do Ei Shin attacked her husband:
- You're the one who always starts the fight. I married you for love! Not by the will of the parents, but by love! But now that's it! I don't want to suffer with you anymore!
- Stop yelling! - the husband snapped. “I’m so tired of you that even looking at you makes me sick.” All! I’ll go to a monastery and I’ll finally get rid of you.
- Go, go! Don't you think that I will run after you?! Don't get your hopes up!
U Pyu went to the monastery.
– What happened, Wu Pyu? - the abbot of the monastery asks him. - Why are you so gloomy?
And Wu Pyu answered him:
“Reverend teacher, I had a quarrel with my wife and I no longer intend to live at home!” Let me become a monk!
The abbot thought and thought and said:
– Before making a final decision, you need to weigh everything properly. Make sure you don't have to repent later. I give you three days. If within three days you do not change your intentions, we will accept you into the monastery.
Pugh was somewhat annoyed by this turn of affairs, but did not dare to contradict the abbot.
By the evening of the next day, Do Ei Shin had cooled down a little, her anger had subsided, and she went to look for her husband. Seeing U Pyu from afar, Do Ei Shin was delighted and, coming closer, began to exhort him in an unctuous voice:
“Have you really left home?” Has he really left me forever? And I made your favorite pork soup! Let's go home!
“You said that you don’t want to live with me,” U Pyu answered grumpily. - Well, okay, so be it, let's go!
“U Pyu,” the abbot of the monastery called to him, “have you really changed your mind about becoming a monk?”
- I've changed my mind, teacher. There are a lot of things to do at home. My wife won't be able to cope without my help...
And the happy spouses went home.
For three days they lived quietly and calmly, and on the fourth they quarreled again. And again U Pyu came to the monastery.
“Reverend teacher,” he began to ask the abbot. – Shave the knot on my head, dress me in light clothes. I was determined to become a servant.
– Aren’t you going to change your mind like last time? – the abbot doubted.
But Wu Pyu began to ardently convince him of the firmness of his intentions, and the abbot yielded. They shaved U Pyu's head and found monastic robes for him. U Pyu was so angry with his wife, so angry that, fearing even a chance meeting with her, he did not come close to the gates of the monastery.
Do Ei Shin expected that her hubby was about to return, but seven days passed and he was still not there, and then she became seriously worried.
“Apparently, U Pyu was very offended by me,” she grieved.
I thought and told my fortune to Do Ei Shin and went to the monastery again.
“Do you know where my U Pyu is?” – she asked the first monk she met. He told where to look for him.
“Have you forgotten me yet, Wu Pyu?” – Do Ei Shin asked insinuatingly.
But Wu Pyu continued to finger his rosary and did not even look in her direction. Realizing that the previous tricks were no good, she decided to use her most powerful weapon.
- At Pyu, do you remember, and when we were very young, when we still loved each other, remember there... under the acacia tree?..
- But of course! – Wu Pyu perked up. - I wish I could remember! Let's go home quickly! True, I have no hair, but it can’t be helped, I’ll have to go bald for now!
And, lovingly hugging his wife, he hastily left the monastery.
