Most of all, Bison loved to rush around the prairies, and in front of him he would certainly send a pack of foxes, who with loud voices warned all the flying, crawling and running little things that their leader Bison had gone for a walk and everyone had to get out of the way so as not to be trampled.
One day, when the Buffalo was rushing across the prairie like this, the little bird could not give way to him in time: she was just sitting on the nest.
And although all the animals tried to stop the Bison, he did not even think of turning away and trampled both the bird and the nest with his heavy hooves.
Bison did not expect that Nanabozo, the son of the heavenly spirit, who created land and all living things and molded the first Ojibwe Indian from clay and sand, would find out about his action.
Nanabozo became very angry. He rushed across the Bison and stopped him with one movement of his hand.
- How dare you destroy what I created? - Nanabozo exclaimed menacingly. “How dare you offend those who are weaker than you?” From now on, let all bison grow a hump on their back, and let them always keep their heads bowed low out of shame.
