How the woman with the eagle lived
Enlight

There lived an old man and an old woman; they had one daughter. Spring has come, eagles have flown in from the south and started building nests. Only one eagle does not make a nest for himself; he always circles over the crowd of old people. A girl is playing on the street, and an eagle is soaring above. The eagle folded its wings and fell like a stone. He grabbed the girl with his claws and flew up. The eagle flew to the lake, went down, and planted the girl on the shore. The girl sits, cries, the eagle walks, rubs its head against her. The girl calmed down and stopped crying. I looked and there was a big stone tent standing there. The eagle approached his tent, threw away the door, then returned to the girl and began calling her into the tent with his head. The girl stood up and entered the tent. In the plague the fire is burning, the cauldron is hanging on the tagan, and the meat is being cooked in the cauldron. She sat down. The eagle came out, hit the ground there, and became a man. He entered the chum, came out of the water, sat down next to her, and said to the girl:

- Remove the boiler.

The girl removed the cauldron, scooped out the meat, and they began to eat.

The eagle told her:

“I brought you to be my wife.” Now we will live together.

They went to bed and began to live. Every morning the eagle got up, went outside, hit the ground, became an eagle and flew away to hunt. He brought a lot of animals to his wife, she cooked food at home, crushed skins, fur coats, high fur boots, and made mittens. Autumn has come, the eagles are ready to fly south. The eagle says to his wife:

“I’ll fly south, and you spend the winter here, it’s cold here, I’ll freeze here.”

The girl began to cry. He told her:

- Why are you crying, I’ll be back, I’ll be back in the eagle month.

And the woman says:

- What will I eat? Winter is long!

He tore the feather out of the tail, gave it to his wife, and told her:

- Take care of this feather, when there is nothing to eat, cook this feather, you will make soup.

The eagle flew south, she was left alone. She took the feather, wrapped it in a rag and put it under the pillow.

Winter came, she ran out of food, and she began to starve. She hung the cauldron, poured water into it, lit a fire, and put a feather in the water. The water began to boil and there was a smell of delicious soup. The woman sat down to eat and heard someone walking outside. The door opened and a woman entered. The woman sat down by the fire, the eagle’s wife looked - and it was sausages. Sausages said:

“You don’t have a husband at home, you don’t go hunting.” How do you live, where do you get such fatty soup?

The woman said:

- Let's eat.

She took out the meat and also took out a feather. She shook off the feather and hid it under the pillow. I saw everything about the sausages, but didn’t say anything and began to eat in silence. In the morning the woman went to get firewood. I came to the chum for sausages, looked for it, found a feather under the pillow, threw it into the fire, and left. The woman with the firewood returned, but there was no feather. She looked, and it turned out that Sausages was walking near the chum. The woman began to hunt herself and lived until the eagle month. The eagles arrived, but her husband did not. She is waiting for her husband to return. One morning a woman went down to the shore of the lake and looked at an eagle walking through the snow, the feathers on it were burnt and charred. He told his wife:

- Why did you burn me?

And she told him:

“I didn’t burn you.” Sausages burned your feather.
