One day, after talking among themselves, the Tiarians discovered that none of them knew the depth of the Karkiryan Gorge.
“It would be interesting to know,” they said, “how many people must stand on each other’s shoulders in order to reach the upper edge from the bottom of the gorge.” Let's measure the depth of the gorge and establish its dimensions once and for all.
And immediately several people went to the gorge to measure its depth.
At the top, near the abyss, a tree grew. One of the Tiarians grabbed it with his hands and hung over the abyss. The second clung to the first and, slipping, hung even lower, holding his comrade’s legs with his hands.
So they both hung until the third one came. Clinging to the first, he slid down and hung over the abyss, holding onto the legs of the second.
But the Tiarian, who was holding onto a tree, had numb hands, and he shouted to his comrades:
-Hold on tight! I want to change my hands and grab the tree more comfortably...
“We are holding tight,” they replied.
The first Tiarian freed his hands to spit on his palms and grab the tree more comfortably. And at that very moment all three fell into the abyss and were broken.
