In ancient times, the entire earth was covered by the sea. Then the sea water began to gradually recede, and islands emerged from the water in different places. And where the water did not have time to escape, lagoons formed.
A little more time passed, and grass and trees grew on these islands. And the animals crawled out of the sea and began to get used to life on land.
People also came to these islands. They ate fish and crabs, turtles and shells, and picked fruits from trees.
On one of these islands lived two sisters - Curramara and Nakari. These sisters were brave hunters and fished well.
One day they were relaxing by the lagoon. One of the sisters, the one named Nakari, caught an unprecedented fish of unprecedented size. This fish was pale, round and flat. And the sisters called this fish Moon-fish. The Moon Pisces turned out to be difficult. Her sisters barely pulled her out of the water.
The sisters went to look for roots to make the fish tastier. And they left the Moon Fish in the thick grass, under a large tree.
The sisters collected a lot of roots and came back to the lagoon. The sisters were very hungry and thought a lot about how they would eat the fish with roots. But there were no fish under the tree.
The sisters searched for the Moon Fish for a long time. They look, and she is sitting on a branch of a large tree. Then she jumped onto another branch. The Moon Fish began to rise higher and higher and finally jumped straight into the sky.
And the Moon-fish swam across the vault of heaven like a large flat light ball, illuminating everything in the sky and on the earth.
The Moonfish swam slowly and proudly across the sky, and it was large and important.
This went on for many nights. But one day the sisters saw only half of the Pisces Moon in the sky, then a quarter, and then there was no Pisces Moon at all.
- Someone up there in the sky ate our fish! - Kurramara shouted.
But she was wrong.
The moon fish was a sorceress and came to heaven again. At first people saw only a piece of it. But she grew and grew and finally floated across the sky again like a large bright ball.
