Once upon a time there lived a gray sheep. She had two lambs. One day a sheep decided to go and bow to Bogdo-Burkhan. And she went along with the lambs.
She walks across the steppe, and a wolf meets her.
“I’ll eat you and your lambs now!” he shouts. Bogdo-burzsan is a saint.
- Oh, wolf, wait a little, let me pray and bow to Bogdo-Burkhan. And when I go back, then you’ll eat it.
“Okay, so be it, I’ll eat you when you go back, but if you go to Burkhan alone, you’ll leave the lambs here!” If you don’t come back in three days, I’ll eat them!” said the wolf.
What should a sheep do? I had to leave the lambs behind.
Three days later the sheep comes back, completely sad. He thinks about how to help out the lambs, but he can’t think of anything. And suddenly a hare came towards me.
- Why are you, sheep, so sad, so sad? Where are you coming from? he asks.
— I went to bow to Bogdo-Burkhan. On the way I met a wolf. He wanted to eat me, but he kept my lambs and said that if I didn’t return in three days, he would eat them. Three days have passed. That's why I'm sad.
“And you and I will deceive the wolf,” said the hare.
“How can we deceive him?” asked the sheep.
“Go and find some paper with an inscription,” said the hare.
The sheep ran to where the aal had recently migrated, found there a colorful tea wrapper with a Chinese inscription, and joyfully returned to the hare.
“Well,” said the hare, “I will put this paper on your horns, and you will tell the wolf that you are carrying the decree of Bogdo-Burkhan himself.” Tell him: “First read the decree, and then eat me!”
The sheep came to the wolf and shouted:
- I carry the decree of Bogdo-Burkhan himself! Wolf, read it and then eat me!
The wolf took the paper, looked at it from all sides, saw the writing, but could not read it. And suddenly I saw a hare.
- Hey, hare, friend, come here, read to me what is written here! And then you and I will eat this sheep together!” shouted the wolf.
The hare took the paper, looked at it, looked at the wolf... And, stuttering, he read: “Decree. Make a fur coat from wolf skin. Make a hat from fox skin..."
The wolf heard these words and took off running.
And the hare began to laugh.
This is how the sheep and lambs were saved from the greedy wolf. They lived for a very long time, and there were more and more sheep in our steppes.
