And at dawn that day, the hare put his brother, also a hare, on a tree. So the animals gathered - there was an elephant, a lion, and a rhinoceros - they brewed beer and put it under a tree.
They just started drinking beer, and the hare says:
“The time has come to ask: who should be the leader here on earth?”
The elephant stood up and shouted:
- Oh, you are up there, in the village of our ancestors! Who should be a leader here on earth?
But no one answered from above; there was silence. Then the hare said:
- They don't answer you. That means they won’t recognize you! And you shouldn’t be a leader!
The lion stood up and shouted:
- Oh, you are up there, in the village of our ancestors! Who should be the leader here on earth?
And again the answer was silence. And the hare says again:
- And you won’t be a leader! Now the hare himself has risen:
- It’s me, the hare, screaming. Who should be the leader here on earth?
And the animals heard a voice come from above:
- To you, venerable hare, to you! We leave you as leader there on earth!
The hare looked at everyone importantly:
- Well, have you heard now?
And everyone agreed. And the elephant said:
“Truly you are a leader, that’s what they told us from above!” All the animals stood up and bowed to the hare - their leader.
And then the hare said:
- Now follow me, my people!
