How the fox went to christening

Once upon a time, a long time ago, a wolf, a bear, a hare and a fox gathered to mow hay. Each of them took breakfast with them: the wolf - meat, the bear - a pot of honey, the fox - an onion, the hare - a head of cabbage.

They mowed and mowed, and the fox decided to feast on the honey that the bear had brought. She turned away and let out a low voice:

“Uh-oh!”

The mowers ask:

- Whose name was it?

“It’s the sisters calling me for christening,” answered the fox, and she ran to the pot of honey. She ate a third of the pot and returned to the meadow.

– What was your godson’s name? - the mowers ask. “Started,” the fox answers.

“Pochaty, Pochaty,” the bear, the wolf and the hare are surprised, “what a wonderful name!” And the fox puffed up and answered arrogantly:

- A lord's child is a lord's name! They began to mow again. They mowed and mowed, and again the fox wanted honey, she turned away and quietly yipped: “Uh-oh!” The mowers ask: “Whose name was it?”

“Yes, it’s my sisters calling me to the christening,” the fox answers, and she herself grumbles: “Well, is it possible to walk around at christenings in the midst of suffering?”

The bear, wolf and hare heard these words and scolded her:

- You’re not talking! Since my sisters are calling, I have to go! The fox ran again to the honey and ate half the pot. She returned to the meadow, and the mowers asked:

– What was your godson’s name? “Half empty,” the fox answers.

“Half-Empty, Half-Empty,” the animals are surprised, “what a wonderful name!” And the fox answers arrogantly:

- What’s surprising here, and it’s clear to a fool: a lord’s child is a lord’s name! The animals didn’t say anything to her about this, they continued mowing down. They squinted a little, again the fox turned away and quietly yelped: “Uh-oh!” - Whose name was it? - the mowers ask. And the fox went crazy with anger:

- What kind of misfortune is this - to go to christenings in the midst of suffering! No, let them baptize without me this time!

The bear, wolf and hare heard her words and scolded the fox:

- You’re not talking! Since my sisters are calling, I have to go! The fox ran to the pot and finished the honey. She returned to the meadow, the mowers asked her:

– What was your godson’s name? “The last one,” the fox answers. “The last one, the last one,” the animals are surprised, “what a wonderful name!” - What's surprising here? “The lord’s child is a lord’s name,” the fox answers and, you know, mows on. Soon the bear, the wolf and the hare wanted to eat, but the trickster fox said to them: “Is it possible to eat right away?” We'd better get some sleep first.

The bear, wolf and hare agreed with her and went to bed. As soon as they fell asleep, the fox crept up to the pot, scraped up some honey and smeared it on the wolf’s mouth, and then went to bed.

The animals woke up, got up and started eating. The bear looks: fathers, the pot is empty! Then he saw that the wolf had honey all over his mouth, and let him crush his sides. The wolf started to run, the bear followed him, and the fox and hare ran after and laughed. They laughed so hard that the hare's lip burst from laughing, and to this day it has not healed.
