The fox knew a lot of tricks, but he didn’t yet know how to fly through the air. She went to the stork to learn this wisdom.
The stork grabbed the fox by the scruff of the neck and lifted it into the air. The fox thought: “Well, I’ve learned to fly!” – and asked the stork to let her go. The stork let her go, and the fox flew down like a stone and straight onto a stump. The fox managed to shout to the stump:
- Move aside, you idiot! But the stump didn’t even move. The fox hit a stump and was so hurt that he couldn’t get up - he lay as if dead, with his tail outstretched. Since that time, foxes have not tried to fly through the air and still hold their tails as they fly away.
