How the Evenk got the deer

How the Evenk got the deer

They say that a long time ago, when the good spirit of Kheveki populated the Earth, he settled two people in these parts - a Russian and an Evenk.

And he created for them only one deer.

When Kheveki began to sculpt the deer, he did not know who he would give it to.

I thought and thought, but could not decide anything. Then I thought some more and thought this way:

— I’ll create only one deer. I give you his kneecap. Whoever takes it from whomever will get the deer.

The Russian and the Evenk agreed.

- Right. We will take the kneecap from each other.

The Russian and the Evenk grabbed the small cup with their fingers, each began to pull it towards themselves, taking it away from each other.

The Russian man was very strong. He miscalculated his strength and pressed so hard with his fingers that he stretched the cup and tore the bone from it. Most of the cup remained in the fingers of the Evenk.

Kheveki said:

“Let the Evenk get the deer.” He has less strength, but he held the cup tightly and did not tear off the bone. I will create other animals for the Russian man - big and tall, only he will be able to cope with them.

Kheveki molded a second cup, the same stretched one and with the bone torn off, stuck the cups on the knees of the deer’s hind legs and breathed the living spirit into it.

After that, he gave the deer to the Evenk.

Both people were very pleased that Heveki had not offended anyone.

Since then, the Evenks have had deer.

Russians don’t have deer - their pets are different.
