Shauei, lonely and tired, was on his way to the Nart lands, which he had long missed for a long time.
Without paths, through deserted mountains and valleys, he returned home, and the beauty Schatzfitsa, who in the form of a man had been his guest and comrade-in-arms for so long and so suddenly disappeared, could not leave his mind.
Driving past a small village, Shauei met shepherds and asked them:
— What's new in the Country of Narts? Who showed up? Who is missing?
“It’s hard to talk about what happened, traveler.” The Narts are in great sorrow; they are missing the mighty Shauei.
- What have you heard about him?
- Nobody knows anything about him. They say that one day an unknown guest came to Shauei and spent more than six months with him. Then Shauei went on a hike with his guest and disappeared into the water. And here on the land of the Narts it is a marvelous miracle: either in broad daylight a black night will come, or in the middle of the night there will be a clear day. The Narts won't understand - what does this mean? Perhaps this is news from Shauei? The bravest went to look for him and swore that they would not return until they found him alive or dead. If Shauei died, his bones will be found and buried in his native Nart land.
The Narts who remained at home bitterly mourned the hero. Shauei was a fearless knight, his fame resounded beyond the borders of the Nart lands. His name alone terrified his enemies! And now they have heard that Shauei has died, and are preparing to attack the Country of the Narts.
At the end of the woeful story, the shepherds began to sing:
Glorious knight Shauei, Bogatyr of the best! Where did you put your head? Where did the mighty sword leave?..
