Once old Bamse pulled up a horse and lay near the carcass, having lunch. And the cunning Mikkel is right there. And he spins around the bear and fusses, always trying to grab a piece of meat from under his nose. And old Bamse tells him:
- Would you like me to teach you how to catch a horse, Mikkel? Then you too will enjoy horse meat.
- Want! - says Mikkel.
- Go to a forest pasture, and when you see a horse lying on a hillock and sleeping, jump on its back, tie yourself tightly to it and grab its thigh with your teeth.
Mikkel ran into the forest and saw a horse sleeping on a hill in the sun. He jumped onto her back, tied himself tightly and grabbed her thigh with his teeth! Then the horse jumps up and starts galloping along the slopes and over the rocks with Mikkel on his back! The horse is trotting, and the fox sitting on top of it is barely alive. Suddenly Jene the hare runs past.
“Where are you going headlong, Mikkel?” - asks the hare.
- Well, I decided to go for a ride! - the fox answers him.
The hare stood up on his hind legs, grabbed his stomach with his front legs and laughed as hard as he could. He laughed and laughed, almost burst from laughter. From then on, Mikkel the fox never tried to eat horse meat.
And so it happened that one day old Bamse got the better of the fox.
