One day Mikkel and Bamse decided to cultivate a field together. They dug up a piece of virgin soil in the forest and sowed rye.
- How are we going to divide the harvest? - asks the bear.
“Everything must be fair,” the fox answers. “You take the roots for yourself, but even the tops are enough for me.”
The harvest came, and the fox reaped a rich harvest of grain, but the bear got only straw and weeds. Old Bamse got angry, and the fox said to him:
“Nothing can be done, that was the agreement.” But if you want, this time take the tops for yourself, and so be it, let me get the roots.
And they planted turnips. The turnip ripened, Mikkel dug it up, and the bear got only the leaves. The bear got angry and from that time on he never started any business with the fox again.
