The ancient Sami lived near the seashore. There was a Sami village on the banks of the Voronya River. The Sami in the village learned that the unpeaceful Swedes would soon come to them. In a Sami village, there was an old man nicknamed the Elder Head. This old man says:
– Now we all need to flee to another place, otherwise the Swedish invaders will find out that we live here, they will come and cause a lot of grief. We need to collect one hundred kerezhs (carts) and one hundred bulls. I will stay here in the village to wait for uninvited guests, and when they come, I will make sure that I outwit them all alone.
The Sami gathered a hundred kerezhs and a hundred bulls, left everything to the old man, and they themselves moved further away, to another village. The old man was left alone in this village and began to wait for the unpeaceful Swedes.
Some time passed, and the old man saw many deer. It was the Swedish force coming. So the invaders came and asked the old man:
- Why do you live alone?
And he answers:
- Wait, I’ll go now for my people.
Their main boss says:
- Take us to the place where the new village is.
The old man answers:
- I’ll take you, just all of you lie down in the kerezhi. I have a hundred kerezhi, but how many people do you have? And the strict boss says:
- I have a hundred people.
The old man drove the reindeer and harnessed one bull to each box. Then he ordered all the soldiers to lie down in the cages and began to tie them tightly with ropes. The Swedish leader asks:
- Why are you tying all my strength into little cages?
And the old man says:
“I tie it so that the Sami don’t see in advance who I’m taking, otherwise the people will see the people sitting in the little cages, get scared and run away.” Or they might kill you all. Let them think that I am carrying cargo.
The boss says:
- Okay, tie it up and lead. Let's go. They're going. The day passed, evening came, the old man said:
- Well, now we’ll arrive soon, we’ll be in the village at night so that they won’t see us entering.
Here are a hundred kerezkis, tied with one belt one after another, riding along. And the old man tied the boss to the front cage. They drive, drive along the mountain straight to the sea, past the Voronya River. They stopped, heard the sea rustling, and the enemy commander asked:
-What's that noise? The old man answers:
– It’s salt and water at war in the sea!
The boss did not understand what the old man’s words meant. And the old man hurried and quickly drove the caravan of reindeer teams forward. He rode and rode, drove straight up to the cliff of a high mountain, stopped, quickly took out a knife from his belt, cut off his ox with the bull from the common belt in one fell swoop, and severely lashed the ox with the boss’s nick. The bull jumped off the cliff and dragged the entire caravan with him. Before the enemies had time to come to their senses, they found themselves in the icy sea, and there they turned into underwater rocks. And the old man with the bull and Kerezhka returned to his fellow villagers. The village of Voronyogo is still called Sami to this day. that place is Hundred Rocks.
