In the old days, there was a custom in this city: to drown old people. The owner of the house gets old, his son takes him by the hand, leads him and throws him from the shore into the water.
One young man’s father grew old, and the young man said to him:
- Come with me, father, you are already old, and the time has come to drown you.
There is nothing to do, the unfortunate old man recovered on his last journey. His son brought him to the high bank of the river. But just as he was about to push his father off the cliff into the water, he begged:
“I beg you, son, don’t drown me in this same place.”
Hearing these words, the young man thought about it and said to himself:
“My father also drowned his father, and in this very place.” So, when I get old, my son will drown me here too?
And he spared his father, took him back home and began to feed and take care of him until his death. The whole city soon learned about this incident, and its residents stopped drowning their elderly.
