How a fool bought glasses

How a fool bought glasses

Once upon a time there lived a man who could not be more stupid in the world. I saw that old men and women put on glasses when they read, and I also decided to get glasses. I came to the shop and asked for glasses. He put it on his nose, took the calendar, looked at it, and couldn’t read anything. I asked for other glasses. The owner is helpful - he laid out as many as six pairs in front of the fool - not a single one fits. Then the owner brought the best glasses that he had in his shop. The fool put them on his nose again, looked at the calendar, and shook his head: they’re not suitable, they say.

The owner was surprised, looked at the fool more closely, and he was holding the calendar upside down.

The owner asks:

- Why is it, sir, that none of your glasses suit you?

“You’re selling bad glasses,” the fool answers. “Give me good ones, I’ll read anything.”

- And, sir, may I ask, do you know how to read and write? - the owner turned to the fool.

“If I knew how to read and write, I wouldn’t need glasses,” answered the fool.
