A man came to Buddha and said:
- I am very rich, I have no children, my wife died. I would like to do some work for merit. What can I do for the poor and downtrodden? Just tell me what should I do?
Hearing this, the Buddha became very sad and a tear rolled down his cheek.
The man was puzzled by this reaction. He asked:
- Are there tears in your eyes? You suddenly felt sad, why?
Buddha replied:
“Unfortunately, you can’t help anyone until you help yourself.” Your main “metal” has not yet become gold, you cannot do anything compassionate, because your energies are at the very bottom. You want to help people, but you still don’t have enough awareness. You have no real center from which compassion can flow.
