Heavy burden

Heavy burden

One day a thief was walking through the desert and carrying on his back a wineskin with looted treasures. And his burden was heavy.

For a long time he walked under the scorching sun of the desert, suffering from the heat and the weight of his precious cargo. And the further he walked, the more and more thirst tormented him, the more and more the heavy burden pressed down, taking away his last strength. “Throw away the wineskin with jewelry,” an inner voice advised him. “Perhaps you will be able to reach the water lightly and survive.” But the thief did not listen to his inner voice and stubbornly lost strength, hunched over under his jewelry.

And so, when the last of his strength was ready to leave him, and the thief was almost falling in exhaustion, he saw a wineskin nearby, apparently abandoned by a traveler who had passed here before him. Gathering the rest of his strength, the thief joyfully rushed to him as his last hope for a drink of water. But, having opened the wineskin, the thief did not find a drop of water in it - it was filled to the brim with treasures.
