The hare saw a deer with beautiful branchy antlers and began to complain to Jupiter about his lot: he is weak and poor, and no one is afraid of him, so he asks to give him antlers like those of a deer for beauty and protection.
Jupiter told him that they were heavy and he could not cope with them.
“Nothing,” answered the hare, “I can handle such horns just fine.”
Then, at the behest of Jupiter, horns grew on his head, huge and branched. But then it turned out that under the weight of them the hare could no longer run: he was caught by the shepherds, and they killed him. So many thirst for much and want to find honor in it, but they find adversity and death.
