Once upon a time, a kind but very poor man named Dogidog lived with his mother. Over time, the floor in their small hut became leaky, and a new one had to be laid. Dogidog went into the forest to cut bamboo for a new floor, and took with him a pot of boiled rice.
Arriving in the forest, he placed the pot under a tree, and he himself went to chop bamboo. While Dogidog was away, a lost rooster came and pecked at the rice. Dogidog spent a long time chopping bamboo, finally got hungry and decided to rest and eat rice. He went to the tree under which he had left the pot and saw that there was not a single grain in the pot. Without finishing the work, the hungry Dogidog returned home.
The next day, Dogidog again went to cut bamboo and again placed the pot of rice under the tree. And the rooster appeared again and pecked everything away. On the third day, Dogidog again went into the forest and again put the pot under the tree, only this time he did not leave, but hid in the bushes, very close. Soon the rooster appeared again and began to peck the rice. The rooster really liked the rice, and he didn’t notice how Doghidog sneaked up on him.
“So that’s who eats my rice!” - he exclaimed, grabbing the rooster.
“Don’t kill me,” the rooster began to beg, “then you yourself will be glad that you didn’t kill me.”
“Okay,” said Dogidog, “so be it, I’ll take you to my home - you’ll guard my hut.”
He took the rooster home, tied it to the door of the hut and went off to cut bamboo again. This time he cut as much bamboo as he needed. Satisfied, Dogidog went home.
- Cuckoo! - the rooster crowed when he saw him. - Now take me to the cockfight in the neighboring village!
On the next holiday, Dogidog took the rooster under his arm and went to cockfights. On the way, he had to ford the river. When Dogidog was crossing it, a crocodile swam up to him and asked:
-Where are you going, Dogydog?
“To the neighboring village, to a cockfight,” he answered.
“Take me with you, I’ll be useful to you,” said the crocodile, and then they walked together.
Soon they met a deer. He asked:
-Where are you going, Dogydog?
- To the neighboring village, to a cockfight.
“Take me with you, I’ll be useful to you,” said the deer.
Dogidog agreed, and the three of them went on. Soon they met a monkey.
-Where are you going, Dogydog? - asked the monkey.

The four of them went, and Dogidog shared everything he had with his new comrades along the way. Finally they came to the village. Cockfights had already begun there, and Dogidog immediately let his rooster fight with another. The Dogidoga rooster pounced on the enemy and easily defeated him. People began to bring their roosters and bet big money with Dogidog. However, the Dogidoga rooster defeated all the roosters in this village. Dogeedog won a lot of money.
Someone suggested:
- Let's arrange some more competitions. Crocodile Dogidoga, hearing this, said:
— I can be under water for a long time. Who is ready to compete with me?
Many people wanted it. The crocodile dived, followed by the others, but the crocodile outlasted all the divers underwater.
Then a deer came forward and said:
- Let's race. Everyone ran a race, and of course, the deer came running first.
Then a monkey came forward and shouted:
- Who will climb to the very top of the tallest palm tree?
Many climbed, but only the monkey reached the top. Dogidog won so much money in these competitions that he had to buy two horses to take the bags of silver home. Arriving home, he said to his mother:
- Go to your neighbor, he has been wanting to sell his house for a long time - maybe now he will sell it to us?
The neighbor, having learned that Dogidog had money, happily sold him the house. Dogidog settled a rooster, deer and monkey in it, and friends dug a pond in the yard for the crocodile.
