They say that a certain man took a poor man into his service. The master had a plain appearance, but the servant was handsome. This is how they lived: one ordered, the other obeyed. But hard times have come. There was a drought and many people died. When the famine ended, the servant thought that none of those who knew that he was a servant were left alive. Therefore, relying on his good appearance, he said to the gentleman:
- You are my servant, and I am your master.
A dispute began between them, and rumors of their dispute reached a wise judge. The judge invited the disputants to enter the tower and stick both hands out of the window. Then he, standing outside, shouted:
- Well, now determine where the servant’s hands are and cut them off!
Hearing these words, the former servant quickly removed his hands and thus gave himself away. So the judge determined which of them was the master and which was the servant.
