They say that one day, when there was no more rice left in the rice fields, a guinea fowl and a chicken stole the sweet potatoes and decided to eat them. They lit a fire, and when the sweet potatoes were cooked, the chicken said:
“I’ll take the biggest ones to my hut, and here in the field I’ll eat only the small ones.”
“I’ll do better,” said the guinea fowl. “I’ll eat the biggest sweet potatoes first.” Suddenly the owner of the field comes, then I’ll throw the little ones and fly away.
- Master? - the chicken was surprised. “I’m not afraid of him.” If he comes, I will fly away and take the big sweet potatoes with me.
The feast has begun. One pecked at small sweet potatoes, the other ate large ones. Suddenly the owner appeared and chased the thieves. The guinea fowl, having eaten its fill, flew away and abandoned the chicken, which ran back and forth uselessly, not knowing what to do with the large sweet potatoes. The owner grabbed her and took her with him.
This is how they say a man caught and tamed a chicken.
