A long time ago, when people lived for a very long time, in one village not far from a dense forest lived a poor family - a grandfather, father and grandson. Grandfather was already more than a hundred years old, but although he was old and decrepit, he often told his son and grandson about military campaigns and battles and other events of his long life. He also told fairy tales and ancient legends, and his grandson listened to him, forgetting about everything in the world. The father, however, was unhappy that he had to feed the old man, and was constantly thinking about how to get rid of him.
One day he told his son:
— I earn only one peso a day. Half of this money has to be spent on your grandfather, but he is of no use. Let's tie him up tomorrow, take him into the thicket and leave him there.
“Okay, father,” the boy agreed. In the morning they tied up the old man and took him into the dense forest, and they themselves went home.
They had walked only a short distance when the boy suddenly said to his father:
- Wait, I'll come back for the rope.
- Why do you need it? - the father was surprised.
“I will need it when you get old,” the son answered. - I will take you to the forest, like you did to your grandfather.
“I’m very ashamed, son.” Let’s quickly go back and bring your grandfather home,” said the father.
They hurried back to their grandfather, and no one ever reproached him for his old age.
