The padishah forced Nasreddin Afandi to bring him a gift, as all the courtiers did.
Afandi had the only goose, he killed it, fried it, put it on a dish and took it to the padishah.
But Afandi was so hungry that on the way he ate one leg of a goose.
Having received the gift, the padishah asked:
- Afandi, where is the other leg?
Thinking, Afandi looked around and saw the padishah’s geese in the shadows by the pool; they stood on one leg, tucking the other under them. Then Afandi replied:
— This year all the geese hatched one-legged. Look at yours! The padishah ordered Yasaul to throw the cane at the geese. Frightened, running away with a cackle, they immediately became bipedal.
- What are you making up, Afandi? - the padishah pointed at them. Afandi was not at a loss here either:
“If this cane were to hit even a highly respected man on the head, he would run on four legs!”
