One day the Generous and the Stingy decided to go to worship together. The Stingy One used the Generous One’s bread and water all the way. Finally, the Generous One ran out of supplies. He began to ask the Miser, but he told him that he did not want to be in the same position and therefore would not give anything. Generous could not follow further and remained in the cave they reached. The miser went alone.
In the cave, to satisfy his hunger, the Generous One took some herb into his mouth and from that moment began to understand the language of all plants and animals.
In the evening, a wolf and a fox ran into the cave, and a magpie flew in. The fox asked the magpie what she ate today. She replied that she was still hungry.
“But there is a mouse under this poplar,” said the fox. “He constantly plays with gold coins and, admiring them, gets his fill.
The wolf pointed to the opposite mountains and said that there was a bai there who had a thousand rams and one golden goat, thanks to which he, the wolf, was well-fed. If a goat's head is given to a blind man, he will become sighted.
“But under those trees there is a treasury left over from the seven kings,” said the fox, “and by the grace of this treasury I am well-fed.”
Early in the morning the animals left the cave. Generous went to the mouse hole and found gold coins there. Then Dedry went to the bai and bought a goat from him. The generous one knew that the king had a blind daughter. He went to the king and volunteered
cure his daughter. The king agreed. The goat's head was immediately boiled and served to the king's blind daughter. She ate it and immediately began to see.
The overjoyed king married his daughter to the Generous and arranged for her. The king told his son-in-law that he was ready to fulfill any of his wishes. The generous one asked the king for the very spring where the treasury was kept under the trees. The king agreed to give him that spring. The Generous One took out the treasury and began to live with his wife in joy and contentment.
The Stingy returned and envied the Generous. He asked him:
- How did you manage to become rich? And I wander, enduring hunger and cold.
The generous one told him everything without concealment. The miser went into the cave. He hid, waiting for animals and a magpie. They appeared at night. The fox entered first. She began to say that someone heard their conversation and stole all their property, we must be careful. The fox suggested searching the cave to see if there was anyone in it. They started looking. Suddenly the fox screamed:
- There’s a man in the cave!..
The wolf grabbed Stingy and tore him to pieces...
