A long time ago, a beautiful girl lived in a camp. And she had deer. One day she was walking with deer in the tundra, and the night was very dark. Suddenly one deer looked at the sky and shouted:
- Hide quickly, girl! The moon wants to take you to the sky!
The deer had just managed to hide the girl in a large snowdrift and cover her with snow when Luna appeared on the sled. Luna searched and searched, but the girl was nowhere to be seen. She sat on the sled and rode off into the sky.
The girl crawled out of the snowdrift, shook herself off, and entered the tent.
A little time passed, a deer ran in and shouted:
- Luna is riding the sled again! He wants to take you to heaven!
The deer kicked the ground and turned the girl into fire. The fire burns brightly, it's fun. And the Moon was right there - it also entered the chum. I searched all the corners and couldn’t find the girl anywhere. I was ready to leave again with nothing. Here the girl could not stand it, she laughed: “Here I am!”
The Moon wants to catch the fire girl, but she can’t - she’s too hot. And the girl turned from fire into a girl again, contrived, knocked down the Moon, and tied her up.
The moon cries and begs:
- Let me go, good girl! I won't come to earth anymore. I will live in the sky, give light to people at night, show the way!
The girl took pity on the Moon and let her go.
Since then, the Moon appears in the sky only at night. It shines for people so that they do not go astray.
