Remember, whatever you do is a Game. Play your part. If it's a fight, let it be a fight. Stay centered. No need to be serious. Just play.
The war was about to start. Both armies stood in front of each other, waiting for the signal to start killing each other. Arjuna, seeing millions of people, trembled a little. He thought: “This is stupid. Just for the sake of a kingdom, just to become a king, killing millions of people is not worth it.”
This thought was so piercing that he threw down his famous bow and said to Krishna - Krishna was his charioteer - he said to Krishna:
- Turn the chariot back, take me into the jungle, leave me there. I want to renounce the world. I don't need this kingdom or anything else, I don't want to fight.
Krishna argued with him, proving to him that this was flight. And he achieved his goal. He told Arjuna:
- This is predetermined by God - the war must begin, it is inevitable. Even if you run away, someone else will take your place, but there will be war. So don't worry, you've already been forgiven. You are not the one killing these people; God has already decided that these people must be killed, and these people must be killed in defense of religion. These people must be killed for the sake of peace. You must do this - it is your duty!
And he added the clincher. He said:
- Remember, when you kill a person - and this is a very dangerous argument - when you kill a person, you only kill his body. The soul is not killed - it is eternal. So why worry? He will be born again. He will acquire another body, in fact, a new body. You throw away the old model, and he gets a new one, because the soul is eternal.
That's why Krishna tried to tell Arjuna, “Don't worry about the Game. Play! If it had to happen to you, it's playing the game, being a warrior, and fighting that war—fight. But always stay in the center and keep watching, because this is the Game. And there’s nothing serious about it.”
For Krishna it is a Game. He promises one day and forgets another. He is truly free, his freedom is perfect, without flaw... because he knows that everything is a Game. If everything is a Game and everything is a dream, then what is there to worry about? He's not worried. He plays without being involved.
