Once upon a time, in the Middle Empire, the best, most powerful fighters from all over the world gathered for a tournament. The competition was judged by the great Chinese sage. Finally, after many thousands of battles, he chose three of the greatest warriors and asked each of them to tell how he trained.

The first to rise was a huge, fierce-looking fighter and said:

“Every morning at sunrise I break trees, stones, boards - everything that gets in my way. Around my home, on a day's journey, everything turned to dust, to the desert.

“Wonderful,” said the sage. — How do you train? - he asked another fighter.

A tall, thin man stood up, more like a monk or an ascetic.

“Every morning at sunrise,” he said, “I indulge in meditation.” I take my body under the control of my mind and will and force it to be light and fast, like thought.

“Wonderful,” said the sage. — How do you train? - he asked the third warrior.

The most ordinary person, unremarkable in appearance, stood up. If he had not recently won a thousand fights, no one would have thought that he was a warrior, and a great one at that.

“I don’t train at all,” said the third. “I just try to be present in everything I do.”
