And then all the animals learned that the fox godfather was engaged to the wolf godfather. Two enemies, just think! It is unlikely that this marriage is destined to last...
But all the animals, without exception, began to present wedding gifts to the godmother the fox - well, of course, having received the indispensable consent of the king of beasts, the lion.
And so, observing the general excitement, the owner of the forest, the lion, who was grateful to the fox for always carrying out his instructions with her characteristic cunning, also decided to give her something. But his gift should be much better, more interesting than the gifts of others! And he decided to give the fox the right to choose the weather for his wedding day: either sun or rain, whatever he wants. The lion called the fox to find out what she would prefer. And asked her:
- Answer me one question, godfather fox. What do you want me to do for you on your wedding day? Everyone knows that I am the king of beasts, and everything is in my power. I can keep the sun in the sky or make it rain, if I just want to. What would you like: to be sunny or rainy on your wedding day?
The touched fox bowed and said:
- Oh, what’s true is true, our lion king! He who is omnipotent can do anything!
“Then choose what you want,” the lion ordered. “But first, think carefully: if the sun appears on your wedding day, the celebration will be unusually cheerful and crowded.” If it rains, the wedding will not be so lively, but it is believed that rain on the wedding day brings happiness...
The godmother fox, an incomparable cunning and trickster, began to think, immediately becoming serious; she covered her muzzle with her paws, as if she was deciding a question of great importance, and froze like that for some time.
The lion, who was not used to waiting, growled impatiently:
- Well, what? Can’t decide, or what?.. The trickster fox trembled with fear and answered:
“That’s what I’m thinking about, godfather... I know that the king of beasts can handle any task, if he wants, he can make it rain or make the sun shine, but his power is not enough to make... rain and sun appear at the same time!..”
The owner of the forest, who, of course, was vain, answered with visible indifference:
- Well, you’re stupid! Do you dare doubt the power of the king of beasts? And I thought that the godfather of the fox was much smarter. I'll do it the way you want. On your wedding day - to everyone's surprise - there will be rain and sun at the same time.
And on the appointed day, the king of the forests fulfilled his promise. After all, you can’t take back the king’s word! Since then, every time a fox wedding is celebrated in the forest, rain and sun rule in nature. And everyone around knows: it’s raining mushrooms, which means it’s a fox wedding again...
