The fox served the lion. The lion hunted a lot. The fox was fed up with his prey and lived without a care. But she was tormented by envy.

This is how the fox says to the lion:

- How could I learn your art of hunting from you? And it wouldn’t be in vain that I would run through the forests.

“Well, come with me, watch my hunt, maybe you’ll learn something,” said the lion.

“I only dream of how I can hunt with you,” said the fox. The lion and the fox went hunting. Here they came to the hill.

- Fox, go up the hill and see if you can see any prey? The fox climbed to the top of the hill, looked around and said:

— I see a herd of foals with mares.

- Well, here you can hunt well! The lion was preparing to jump and asked the fox:

- What are my eyes like now?

“Red, red,” answered the fox.

- Has my mane risen? - asked the lion.

“Your whole mane stands on end,” answered the fox.

- Is my tail bent?

“Your tail has become like a leather whip,” answered the fox. The lion jumped into the herd, grabbed the foal and twisted its head.

The shepherds and their flock ran away. The fox walked around the foal and licked its lips.

- Well, fox, now you understand what my art is?

“It seems I’ve already learned,” said the fox. “Hunting is not at all difficult!” The next day the fox asked the lion to go hunting. On the way she met a hare.

“Hey, hare, run after me and serve me,” said the fox. “I will hunt.” My prey and you will be fed up.

- Oh, if only it were really like that! - said the hare. “I haven’t eaten anything for three days now.” And he ran after the fox.

They approached the hill.

- Hare, run to the top of the hill, see if you can see any prey?

- I see a herd of foals with mares! - shouted the hare from the top of the hill. The fox began to prepare for the hunt.

- Well, look: are my eyes red? - the fox asked the hare. “Your eyes are the same as they were,” answered the hare.

- Say: “Blush”! - the fox shouted. - Now look: does the hair on my neck stand on end?

“No,” answered the hare, “the same as it was.”

- Say: “Stood on end!” - the fox shouted. “Well, is my tail bent?” “No, it’s hanging as it was,” said the hare.

- Say: “Bent over”! - the fox screamed and rushed at the foal. But the young mare kicked the fox in the head and crushed its skull. The fox's eyes were bloodshot.

- Now your eyes are red-red! - exclaimed the hare. The dying fox was breathing with difficulty, his mouth was wide open, and his fur was covered with

neck rose.

“Now the hair on your neck has stood on end!” - the hare shouted. But the fox was already dead.

It is not known whether she understood what the hunting art of the lion was.
