A cat is running from the village, and a fox is running from the forest, and they meet. Fox says:
- Hello!
- Hello! - says the cat.
- What is your name? - asks the fox.
— Wise Solomon. What about you?
- Widow fox.
- So let's live together.
- Let's!
They built themselves a hut and live.
Fox says:
- Wise Solomon! I saw a dead sheep there, skinned, let's go get it.
Went. They brought it in and eat it. The wolf comes:
- Open it! - shouts.
“Run away, Pan Kozlovsky,” says the little fox, “otherwise the wise Solomon is already eating Pan Baranovsky, and he will eat you too.”
The wolf got scared and ran away. The bear comes:
- Open up!
“Run away, Mr. Kudlash,” says the little fox, “we’ll finish eating Mr. Kozlovsky, and then we’ll eat you too!” The bear got scared and ran away. The boar comes:
- Open it!
“Run away, Mr. Rylach, we’ve already finished eating Kudlash, and then we’ll eat you too!”
The boar got scared and ran away.
So they all gathered together: a wolf, a bear and a boar and said:
- Let's go see the wise Solomon. They approach the hut, and there the cat eats meat and purrs:
- Meow! Meow! Ma-u!
“Hey,” they say, “we have to run, otherwise he says that there won’t be enough of us.”
They got scared, ran further, and then they said:
“Perhaps,” they say, “in such a small hut the animal must be small; will it really eat us?” Let's go have a look at it anyway. Let's bury ourselves in the ground or lie down under a log and hide.
A boar is buried in the ground, wagging its tail, a bear has climbed an oak tree, a wolf is lying under a log.
So the fox says to the cat:
- Let’s go, I’ll catch the goose, and we’ll bring it back. Went. The fox is in front, and the cat is behind and howling:
- Meow! Meow! Ma-u!
He suddenly saw a boar's tail.
And I thought it was a mouse, and how it would grab the tail with its claws. And the wild boar would rush out of fright and hit the oak tree with its snout... The cat got scared and attacked the oak tree where the bear was sitting. And the bear crashed onto the block where the wolf was sitting; everyone jumped up and ran.
Then they gathered and talked. Boar says:
“Here was the thing: how he would grab me by the tail and hit my head against the oak tree...
And the bear says:
- And as soon as he grabbed me by the fur, he threw me out of the oak tree...
And the wolf says:
- How he got close to me, and I was lying under the block, he took the block and how he slammed me on the back, and my back still hurts!
So they say:
“Let the devil look at him, and we won’t go again!” And the frightened cat and the fox went, brought the goose, and ate it for themselves.
