One day there were a lot of geese grazing in the field. A fox passed by, saw geese, and wanted to try some goose. She crept up to the gander and was just about to grab him, when then - to hell with him! - someone whistled. The fox looked around to see what kind of musician he was, and saw a jug. The wind blows into the jug, and it whistles.
“Oh, here he is, the great musician,” exclaimed the fox, “well, just wait, you wretch, you won’t whistle again!”
The fox jumped up to the jug, put its head through the handle and ran to the river to drown the jug. She climbed onto the bridge and lowered the jug into the water. He scooped up a jug of water and pulled the fox from the bridge into the river. The fox saw that things were bad, and began to beg and pray for the jug:
- Jug, jug, I was joking! What, you don’t understand jokes?
But the fox’s prayers did not help: the jug was filled with water, and the fox drowned.
