A fool once found himself in a huge city and, seeing many people scurrying back and forth on the streets, he was dumbfounded. For the night he settled down in a caravanserai, but, fearing that in the morning he would not be able to find himself in this crowd of people, before falling asleep he tied a pumpkin to his leg.
One joker, watching him, understood everything. He waited until the fool fell asleep, untied the pumpkin from his leg and tied it to his own. Then he lay down next to him and fell asleep.
When the fool woke up in the morning, the first thing he did was look for a pumpkin. Seeing it on another person’s leg, he decided that that person was himself. In complete confusion, he pushed the man aside and shouted:
“If you are me, then tell me, for heaven’s sake, who am I and where am I?”
