Nasreddin heard that a banquet would be held in a neighboring city and that everyone was invited to it. He made his way there as quickly as he could. When the manager saw his torn clothes, he seated Mulla in the most inconspicuous place - far from the large table, where the most important guests were served with great attention.
The mullah saw that at least an hour would pass before the servants reached the place where he was sitting. So he got up and went home.
He dressed himself in a magnificent sable robe, put on a turban and returned to the holiday. As soon as the heralds of the emir, the host of the holiday, saw that he looked majestic, they began to beat drums and blow trumpets, as befits a guest of high rank. The chief steward himself came out of the palace and escorted the magnificent one to the middle, to a place almost next to the emir.
Immediately, dishes with amazing dishes were placed in front of him. Without hesitation, Nasreddin began stuffing handfuls of food into his turban and robe.
“Your Eminence,” said the emir, “you have aroused my curiosity with your custom of eating, which is new to me.”
“Nothing special,” Nasreddin answered, “Robe brought me here, brought me food.” He certainly deserves his share.
