One rabbi was very proud of his faith in God. Every now and then he repeated: “I believe in the Lord.”
And then one day there was a flood. The water was constantly rising. People came to the rabbi’s house and said:
- We are leaving this place. Come with us.
To which the rabbi replied:
- No, I'm staying. I believe in the Lord. He will save me.
The water continued to rise. A boat floated up to the house, and the people sitting in it said:
- There is another place here. Come with us, because the water keeps rising.
The rabbi replied:
- No. I believe in the Lord.
The boat sailed away. Then another one came, but the rabbi refused to sit in it either: he believed that he would be saved by God. Finally, a helicopter arrived, and from there they shouted:
- Hey, this is your last chance. We will throw a rope, you can use it to climb here, there is nowhere else to wait for help.
But the rabbi refused this time too. The water continued to rise, and he, of course, drowned.
Having met God in heaven, the rabbi asked him:
“I believed in You so much, Lord, how did You let me drown?”
To which God replied:
“I tried to save you three times: twice, at my will, boats sailed to your house, and then I even sent a helicopter.
