Five brothers

Five brothers hunted a polar bear and an arctic fox. A snowstorm arose, and the brothers got lost in the tundra. The snowstorm started so bad that you couldn’t see the fingers of an outstretched hand. The brothers were afraid of losing each other, falling off the hill or falling into the water. They tied themselves with a long belt made of walrus skin and walked like this for several days and nights until they came across some kind of yaranga.

Let's go. There was a woman in the canopy, she asked:

- How did you get here? No one ever comes or drives in here!

The brothers said that they were lost in the tundra, that they had been without food or sleep for several days.

The woman took off their wet clothes, hung them out to dry, and put the brothers in fur bags and gave them tea, yukola and sour meat. She said to her older brother:

– Don’t leave the yaranga!

The woman left, taking with her a scraper and a board for dressing skins.

The brothers hear: something is rolling down the yaranga; before one thing has time to roll, another is rolling, and so on continuously. The younger brother wanted to see what it was? The other brothers persuade:

- Don’t go, don’t, the hostess didn’t tell you to!

And the younger one keeps saying, “I’ll go, I’ll go!” And along the yaranga something keeps rolling and rolling. Younger brother - to the exit. Four brothers clung to him, but they couldn’t do anything with him - he was spinning in his hands like an eel, and there was nothing to hold him - he was naked. So he jumped out and saw: a woman sitting in the sky, using a scraper to shoot clouds from the sky along the board, and they fell onto the yaranga and onto the ground.

She saw a man. I came home and began to scold them: -

- I told you not to go! She brought all the clouds down to the ground, only one remained, and now there will be no peace with her. And if she had descended from the sky, there would never have been bad weather.

Since then, there have been frequent snowstorms in Chukotka.
