Fisherman's Wife

Once upon a time there lived a husband and wife. The husband loved to fish, but rarely, rarely did he manage to catch anything.

And then one day he was lucky: he left the house early in the morning and caught nine trout in one sitting. He came home very happy and said to his wife:

“Today I’m lucky: I caught nine trout, cook them, and I’ll go get the priest and invite him to eat with us.”

The wife cooked trout and said to herself:

– I’ll eat one and see what they are like.

She ate one trout, licked her lips and took hold of another:

- Delicious! Let’s shoot another one, see if it’s as good as the first one.

She ate the second trout and thought: Now out of the three that fall to my share, there is only one left, I’ll eat that too.

She ate the third one, and then said:

“I’ll eat one of my husband’s.” So! There you go. They seem to be even better than mine. To check, I'll eat another one.

Ate it. There were only four trout left on the platter. She looked at them and thought: If I eat one more, there will be exactly three - one for each... I'll take mine. Perfect! Let's try to see if the second one is as good... Eh, no matter what! If the priest wants trout so much, let him go catch them himself. I'll eat the last one...

So the husband comes along with the priest and asks his wife:

– Are the trout ready?

- Yes, yes! Completely ready! Sit down, sir priest, sit down at the table!

The priest sat down, and the woman called her husband away and said quietly:

- Sharpen the knife well - cut the bread.

The husband answers:

- But he’s already sharp enough.

And she did hers: sharpen and sharpen.

The husband went to sharpen the knife, and the wife said to the priest:

“Do you know, senor, what my husband is doing?”

- No, I don’t know.

“So this is it: he’s sharpening a knife to cut off your ears, he told me so himself; I'm afraid he's gone crazy. Save yourself, sir priest, run quickly, run!

The priest started to run, and the wife called her husband:

- Here! Here! The priest stole our trout! Catch him! Catch up!

The husband ran after the priest and shouted after him:

- Senor priest! Senor priest! Give me one thing! Or better yet, a couple!

And the priest answers:

- Not one, not two! My ears are not for you!
