One day, a wise man visited a younger colleague, known for his exceptional piety. The old man was greatly impressed by such immersion in prayer and the study of ancient books, and he became interested in the reason for such unshakable piety.
As the hospitable host explained, by fully concentrating on his studies, he isolated himself from external factors that could distract his attention. Indeed, the guest noticed that many of the young man’s neighbors were busy with activities very far from piety. His commentary on what he heard and saw sounded like this:
— When it’s cold outside, you can warm up in two ways. The first is to put on a fur coat, the second is to light a fire. But a warm fur coat will warm only one person, and a fire will warm anyone who approaches it.
