He came to his house. The owner came out to meet him, examined the sage and, seeing his old clothes, without saying a word, went back into the house. But he didn’t invite me!
The sage scratched his head and left. The next day, he put on his richest clothes and came back to the house of the “hospitable man.”
He came out, saw an old richly dressed man and immediately invited him to his place, treated him kindly and brought him refreshments.
The sage smiled, took money out of his pocket, put it on a plate of food and said:
“You don’t treat someone who is hungry, but someone who is well dressed can pay for the treat himself!”
