One gentleman needed a farmhand. But since the master was very stingy and kept looking for someone to come to him as cheaply as possible, no one would hire him.
One day a joker came to him and asked for hay for his horse.
And the master told him:
“You’re so healthy and young, and yet you go and collect things.” Hire yourself, light, as my worker.
- Can. How much will you give?
- I will pay depending on your work.
And he told the man the price. And since there was haymaking then, the master fed him and took him to the meadows to indicate his haymaking. The worker looked around, and when the master left, he lay down on the grass and slept all day until the evening.
Every day the joker went to mow, and the master always gave him bread and lard with him. And then one day the farmhand said:
- I won’t work for you anymore, give me a settlement. I cut all your grass down to a single blade of grass.
The master gave him only a few kopecks. The employee was unhappy and said:
- Add at least another piece of lard.
But the master flatly refused him:
- I overpaid you, gave you more than promised.
“Well, since you won’t give me lard,” said the worker, “then let all your grass stand back up like it hasn’t been cut!”
And he left. And the master went to the meadows, looked and was surprised:
“This farm laborer is not an ordinary farm laborer, but a sorcerer: the grass really stands as if it had not been cut.”
