A young girl who had been a long-term bride took a liking to a young guy, and she wanted him to marry her. The guy agreed, but only ordered her not to tell her parents anything. The girl did not say a word, she put all her dowry in the barn and is waiting for her betrothed. And he never thought of marrying such an old hag.
In the evening he came to pick up his bride. They put all the goods on the cart and drove off. The guy says to the girl:
“That’s it, honey, we’ll have to wade through the thicket!” I don't want your eyes to be scratched out. Better tie them up.
The girl agreed and blindfolded her. The groom wrapped the horse behind the barn in thick hemp and drove the horse at full speed - only a crashing sound all around.
- Oh, and scary bushes! - says the girl. - Will we get out soon? I want to open my eyes.
- Soon, soon. But you’ll just have to cross a wide river. I don’t want to scare you, just be patient and don’t open your eyes.
The guy got out of the hemp, drove into the pond and let's drive along it up and down, only splashes fly in all directions. He finally drove up to the hut and said to the bride:
“Now I’ll take you to the hut, sit, wait until I unharness the horse and remove the dowry, then I’ll come and untie your eyes.”
The girl sat down on a bench in the hut and waited. The clock struck midnight.
“Ah,” the girl yawns, “everyone at our house has been asleep for a long time.”
She waited and waited, but the groom was still not there.
“Ah,” the bride yawns again, “everyone at our house has been sleeping for a long time.”
She rummaged around with her hands near the stove:
“The bed is the same as at our house, and the bench is the same.”
Then the mother woke up and listened to her daughter mutter.
- What are you talking about? - asks the mother.
“Yes, mother, I am your daughter-in-law,” the daughter answers.
-What other daughter-in-law? - the mother was surprised and lit the fire.
She saw her daughter blindfolded and realized that her daughter had been fooled. She immediately woke up the men, they rushed after the guy, but didn’t catch him. The scoundrel escaped with all the goods.
