One of Mushfiqi’s cases came before a judge who was known as a bribe-taker. Mushfiqi chose a larger jug, filled it with clay up to the narrow neck, and poured it on top with a thin layer of melted lard. Having tied the neck of the jug with a rag, he took it as a gift to the judge. Having received a full jug of lard, the judge quickly decided the case in favor of Mushfiqi, wrote a judgment and sealed it.
The next day, the judge ordered his wife to cook fatty pilaf with lard donated by Mushfiqi. Having placed the cauldron on the fire, the judge's wife began preparing the pilaf. But as soon as she scooped up the lard with a slotted spoon, Mushfika’s trick was revealed.
The angry judge called his assistant:
- Go to Mushfiqi, tell him that there was an error in yesterday’s court decision. And let him return the paper for correction!
The assistant judge went to Mushfiqi and conveyed these words to him. But Mushfiqi replied:
- Tell the judge that the error must have crept into the jug of lard, and not into the court decision, and therefore no corrections should be made!
