Enuma Elish is a Babylonian-Akkadian epic about the creation of the world. The title is the first two words from the work: “en'ma eliš” - “when at the top.” The text, written in Sumerian cuneiform, was partially preserved on seven clay tablets found in the library of the Assyrian king Ashurbanipal. The text of the poem was first published by the English scientist G. Smith in 1876. The Russian scientist V.K. Shileiko was the first to translate the entire known set of ancient Mesopotamian poetic texts from the original into Russian in the period 1910-1920, including Enuma Elish.
Many of the names of the gods in the text are not graphically highlighted in the way the Sumerians usually highlighted them. That is, in this context, perhaps we are dealing with some cosmological or physical concepts that have correspondence with the real gods of the Sumerian pantheon.
