Echo

One day a little dog wandered far into the mountains. Gloomy, bare rocks loomed over the narrow path. It became cold and dark.

The little dog had heard more than once from her owner how high and harsh these mountains were, how many brave people died under landslides and at the bottom of abysses, and it is therefore not surprising that now her soul was restless. But she considered herself brave and, not wanting to show her cowardice, she gathered her courage and barked several times. The mountain echo exactly repeated her bark. But the dog thought that the mountain itself was answering it.

Having become proud, the little dog looked at the mountain with disdain and said loudly: “Even though this mountain is high, its voice is no louder than mine.” If stupid people had not told terrible tales about her, there would have been no difference between us.

This boastful speech was heard by thunder from a cloud floating over the mountain and, unable to contain its indignation, thundered: “What are you talking about there?”

And the huge mountain repeated many times: “What are you talking about?”

The poor little dog, almost completely deaf, stammered: “I... I... nothing...”

And she set off, tail between her legs, without looking back home.
