A relative came to Nasreddin and brought a duck as a gift. The bird was cooked and eaten.
Soon numerous guests began to arrive, and each was called “a friend of a friend of the man who brought you the duck.” Naturally, everyone hoped for a warm welcome and generous refreshments.
The mullah tolerated uninvited guests for a long time. But one day a stranger came to him and said:
“I am a friend of a friend of your relative who brought you the duck.”
And like the others, he sat down and waited to be fed. Nasreddin placed a cauldron of boiling water in front of his nose.
- What is this? - asked the stranger.
Mulla replied:
“This is soup made from duck that a friend of your friend brought me.”
