Persian parable One day, the ruler Anushirvan (Nushinravan) issued an order prohibiting eating the dishes that he himself eats and drinking the drinks that he himself drinks. Shortly thereafter, a high-ranking official prepared a royal dish and invited another official to share the meal with him. After dinner, the guest wrote to Anushirvan a denunciation of the owner, who treated him to a forbidden dish. “I saw it myself and am unable to hide it from you,” he wrote.
In response, the informer received the following message from Anushirvan, written on the back of the denunciation: “We praise you for your loyal feelings and severely condemn the violator of the order. Especially because he doesn’t know how to keep secrets and reveals them to people like you.”
