The Zen master Gazan asked a young student to bring a bucket of clean water to cool his pool. The student brought water, and after the water in the pool cooled, he splashed the remaining water onto the ground.

“You idiot,” the master scolded him. - Why didn’t you pour the water under the trees? What right do you have to waste even a drop of water in this temple?

The young student received Zen at this rebuke. He changed his name to Tekusui, which means "drop of water".
